Landslide Info

Landslide could be caused by two things, and they are by natural causes and human causes. This is an example of Natural Causes:

- Erosion by river.

- Glaciers melting.

- Ocean waves create over-steepened slopes.

- Rock and soil slopes are weaken through saturation or snow melt or heavy rains.

- Earthquakes create stresses that make weak slopes fail.

- Volcanic eruption produce loose ash deposits, heavy rain, and debris flows.

This is an example of Human Causes: - Vibrations from machinery.

- Traffic and road construction.

- Blasting.

- Stockpiling of rock or ore, from waste piles, or from man-made structures may stress weak slopes to failure and other structures.

- In shallow soils, the removal of deep-footed vegetation that binds the alluviums bedrock.

- Mining.

- Logging.

- Over-grazing.

Our group has chosen two key concept, they are perspective and causation. We chosen this two concept because we cant to find the cause of the landslide and the way of peoples mind about landslide. That's why we went to Mt. Pancar one month ago to found some information from the villager that leaves there. We got quite many information from the villager. We also found our key of our field trip which is the causation. We found out the affect after the landslide happens and also the process of the landslide when happening. We also found out the perspective of the villager there about when the landslide were happen. After we went to Mt. Pancar, with our performances and experiment. We had make two posters. So now we are moving on our experiment. We tried to do the under water landslide. But there is a problem..... The land under the water won't move. So now we're trying to fine the possible solution to make it slides down the water.

My Unit of Inquiry

Title: It's our world and we are responsible for it.
Theme: Sharing the Planet
Central Idea: We are responsble for determining causes of changes in our natural environment.
Inquiry into: -The cause and affect of landslide to community.
-The possible solution to prevent landslide.

My groups name is the Mud-rines. Our groups experiment is making a model of a working landslide by using three different kinds of way. Rockslide, under water landslide, and a normal landslide. To make this model, we used an aquarium. So far we had make the setting, but we haven't made the landslides. My first inquiry is about, Landslides are a serious common disaster which always happened to almost every state in the United States. It is estimated that nationally they cause up to 2 billion dollar in damages and from 25 to 50 deaths usually. Globally, landslides cause billions of dollars in damage and thousands of deaths and injuries each year. Individuals can take steps to reduce their personal risk.

The second inquiry into is, the possible solution to prevent landslide.
There is many kinds of way to prevent landslide. We could stop illegal logging, throwing trash, and also stop co2. Because they could rotten the trees and make a landslide happen. And there are many more of ways to prevent landslide. So let's start preventing landslide.

This is a diagram of some landslides.
